Greetings Turners!
This is my weekend to indulge in one of my other hobbies - golf. The
British open is on as I try to write this and I love watching them play
on the rugged courses of Scotland & Britain. Eventually I will get back
out to the shop, but for today I can let the lathe gather a little dust.
Thanks to Reed Gray for the fine demo on end grain hollowing and
the collection of different tools available to do it. I really want one
of those articulated elbow tools! Of course, that demo means that the challenge
for this month is to produce your own end grain piece.
This month we are going to have several demonstrators, and we
will be going through different finishing techniques. When I first started,
my main finish was lacquer in a can; this will show you several good variations
to get the type of finish you want.
Big news - some of you probably already know that James has sold Woodcraft.
The new owners will take over in early August, and will be at this months
meeting to meet the club members. Be on your best behavior!
If you took some of the Walnut that Dave Young brought in for his
fundraiser for the park in Soda Springs, this is the last chance to
bring in a finished piece to send back with him.
See you on the 28th!
